2012-01-14: Antigua

Left the River Salee, Guadeloupe
& had a nice sail up to Antigua on Tuesday Jan 10.
Herm & Fran, the next photo is for you.
Hasn't changed since you sailed into English Harbor a few years back.

Pillars of Hercules outside English Harbor

Passed the Pillars of Hercules & entered English Harbor.
Pretty spot but way too crowded in the anchorage.
Stopped at Antigua Slipway, fueled up
and motored over to nearby Falmouth Harbor.
Dropped the hook in Falmouth at 3:30 pm.

Next day we awoke to find RomantaSea anchored beside us.
They had arrived at 8:30 am
after an overnight sail from St. Barts.

RomantaSea anchored beside us at dusk in Falmouth

There are lots of mega yachts in Falmouth Harbor.
The big boys have multiple red light going up their masts.
Quite a sight at night.

We dinghied in & walked over to English Harbor
to check in with Customs & Immigration.
Nice lunch at The Anchorage Center.

On the way back, we stopped in at Sam & Dave's laundry.
Had a long chat with proprietors Olive & Suzette.
(Sam & Dave "passed")
Promised to return with laundry.

Rented a car with George & Joanne of RomantaSea.
Drove to Carib Bean (coffee roasters)
Enjoyed an excellent Espresso.

Our hostess with the mostest!

Driving West, we got some good views of the South coast.

MorrisBay

Had a fine lunch at Millers Beach Bar & Restaurant.

Driving back, we had a good view of Falmouth Harbor
from the hill.

Next day we toured East.

Posh St. James Club

Further North we visited Devil's Bridge,
a magnificent blow hole.

Went up to Long Bay on the NE coast.
They love Jamaica in the Eastern Caribbean.
Note the Bigga Jamaica Kola on sale.

The queen bought a dress from this gal.
She was a character, for sure.
Suspect she has a touch of Jamaican in her blood

Antiguan (Jamaican) vendor

Driving "home", we stopped at the remains
of an old sugar plantation, Betty's Hope.
The old wind mills are quite scenic.

Continuing to explore Antigua,
we hit Turners Beach on the West coast.

Turners Beach

Just up from Turners Beach we relaxed before lunch at O.J.'s

Epicurian's is a great supermarket.
Had to buy some vittles!

Epicurian's - one of the best supermarkets down island

We had a fine evening aboard RomantaSea
along with Vicki & Mike of Double Exposure.
Thanks Joanne & George!

On the North coast of Antigua we saw some
colorful condos at Boon Point.

Great Mexican lunch at Peppers & Lime

Well. all good things must come to an end.
And so, we motor-sailed from Falmouth Harbor,
up the West coast of Antigua to Deep Bay.
Deep Bay is a pretty anchorage
& a good jump off point for our next stop, Barbuda.

Look out Barbuda, here we come!!!
